Chandra Bhattacharjee’s works are influenced by rural and tribal themes and his paintings are austere, rustic and intense – an influence of his association with the Santhal tribe of Bengal and the texture usually reminiscent of the traditional mud walls of these villages. He often uses cross hatch as a technique over his colour which adds immense depth. His paintings tell a story but its without a beginning or an end where humans, animals and symbols coexist in complete harmony.
